How to Get More Google Reviews for a Local Business
Updated October 14, 2026 · Some links may be affiliate links. How we make money.
Reviews help people pick you on Google Maps. Most happy customers will leave one if you ask at the right time and make it easy.
Step 1: Get your review link
- Sign in to your Google Business Profile.
- Click Ask for reviews (sometimes called Get more reviews).
- Copy the link. Save it in your phone’s text shortcuts.
No profile yet? Set one up first. It’s free.
Step 2: Ask the right way
- Ask every customer, not just the ones you think are happy. Google doesn’t allow picking only happy customers.
- Don’t offer rewards like discounts for reviews.
- Ask soon, the same day the job is done.
- Keep it short. Example: “Thanks for choosing us today! If you have a minute, a Google review really helps: [your link]”
Step 3: Reply to every review
Thank people for good reviews. For bad ones, stay calm, apologize for the experience and offer to fix it by email. Future customers read your replies.
Step 4: Automate the ask
Forgetting is the main reason businesses don’t get reviews. A CRM can send the text automatically when you mark a job done.
HighLevel lists review management, review AI and workflow automation on its pricing page. FAQ
How do I get my Google review link?
Sign in to your Google Business Profile, then click Ask for reviews (or Get more reviews). Google shows a short link you can copy and share.
Can I give customers a discount for leaving a review?
No. Google's policies don't allow offering incentives for reviews, and you shouldn't ask only happy customers. Ask everyone the same way.
When is the best time to ask for a review?
Right after the job is done and the customer is happy, while it's fresh. A text with a direct link is the easiest for people to act on.
Do I need software to ask for reviews?
No. You can text your link by hand. Software like HighLevel just sends the ask automatically after each job so you don't forget.
